If you use a removable external drive and you unplug it from your computer, the drive letter may change. This is a huge pain in the ass, because if your backup software is looking for Backupdevice E:\ and Windows now calls it Backupdevice F:\, your software won’t back up your Yanni MP3 collection or your collection of Anita Dark pics. This happened to me half a year ago. I thought my stuff was being backed up automatically… I was sadly, sadly mistaken.
Here’s how you can assign a permanent drive letter.
