Yahoo Inc.’s rejection of Microsoft Corp.’s unsolicited takeover bid left investors guessing the next move in a tense mating dance that may hatch a more imposing challenger to Google Inc. or disintegrate into a bruising brawl.”

I doubt it’s a mating dance. I just think she wants a few more bucks. And no, Microsoft, she doesn’t “really like you because all the other guys who go to strip clubs are creeps.” Bro, I’ll say it again: she’s just out for a buck.

The Daily Iowan reports:

A former Hawkeye now with the Miami Dolphins was arrested Feb. 1 after an incident at Union Bar, Iowa City police Sgt. Troy Kelsay said. Matt Roth, 25, Oakbrook, Ill., was charged with public intoxication. As of Monday, Roth was not being held at Johnson County Jail. Police responded to Union Bar, 121 E. College St., at 11:39 p.m. on Feb. 1 after an employee reported that Roth was in the bar, refusing to leave, after being kicked out earlier that night, Kelsay said. Officers reported that Roth had bloodshot, watery eyes, moved slowly and deliberately, and had slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol on his person and breath.”

Airport searching your laptop? Don’t get a tear in my beer. It’s called TrueCrypt.

Rodney Dangerfield

(Kickass original drawing http://www.bullz-eye.com/….)

Yeah yeah, I know that on your laptop, you have pictures of Teletubbies doing naughty, naughty things. I don’t care that you’re into that kind of porn. Whatever. But if you’re crying about the TSA or U.S. Customs searching your laptop, you are an ignorant fool. CNN.com reports on the relevant lawsuits here.

It’s called TrueCrypt, bro–a bit of freeware encryption software that rocks da house. On their website, they say:

In case an adversary forces you to reveal your password, TrueCrypt provides and supports two kinds of plausible deniability:

  1. Hidden volumes (for more information, see the section Hidden Volume).
  2. It is impossible to identify a TrueCrypt volume. Until decrypted, a TrueCrypt volume appears to consist of nothing more than random data (it does not contain any kind of “signature”). Therefore, it is impossible to prove that a file, a partition or a device is a TrueCrypt volume or that it has been encrypted. However, note that for system encryption, the first drive cylinder contains the (unencrypted) TrueCrypt Boot Loader, which can be easily identified as such (for more information, see the chapter System Encryption).”

Ya think you have something you don’t want them to see at the airport? You should’ve locked up those files in a TrueCrypt volume. If you find em’ diggin through your shit, don’t come crying to me. I’m busy playing Call of Duty 4, Brobi Wan Kenobi.

Chris Crocker’s new video against gay bashing

Posted In: Entertainment, Internet, People, Philosophy/Religion, Random Lashing Out, Videos, Websites We Support

Gawker.com covers Chris Crocker’s new video, which contains a diatribe against gay bashers who comment on his infamous (”more than famous,” ahem) Britney Spears video on Youtube.

Crocker’s “Fuck you” to the gay bashers is certainly understandable; he’s in a very frustrating situation. Unfortunately, his rant doesn’t achieve much–other than some temporary catharsis. (Not that mine fare much better.) Crocker thinks that the media should focus on gay bashing; this is true. But I think Crocker should focus on the psychological causes of gay bashing.

I think that ending discrimination and hate against gays will probably be among the last frontiers in the quest to end bigotry. Bigotry against gays is probably now becoming the most dominant form out there. If you play Halo 3 or Call of Duty, it seems that the #1 insult in pre and postgame lobbies unfortunately involves calling someone a “faggot.” But that’s just the report from my little world of video-game-dorkiness.

I’m speculating that hundreds thousands of years from now, most people will eventually move beyond bigotry race and gender–because humans regard race and gender as natural states that no one can do anything about. But many humans view homosexuality as being unnatural–often doing so without a clear or coherent definition of natural–just as we view steroids as being unnatural without knowing exactly why. Or they view it as being a choice that can be discarded at will; never mind that many of the people who advance this position would not regard themselves as being able to choose to be gay. They might say, “That’s something I cannot do…” Of course, the easy retort is to say, “I won’t choose to be gay.”

Then you ask them why. Most will probably retreat to some kind of divine command theory or back to the argument from naturalness. In order to combat these views, you have to push the theory of evolution and argument against the divine command theory. If Crocker wants to undermine gay bashing, he’s got to arm himself in the right way.

Kanye West Does His Thing at Grammy Awards and Gets Hosed Again

Posted In: Celebrities, Entertainment, Music, News, People, Videos

Kanye West at the Grammy Awards

Kanye West has been known to take exception to award ceremonies, most notoriously the VMA Awards vowing to never go back on MTV after being shut out on the big prize multiple times. Sunday night Kanye had a great streak of success at the 2008 Grammy Awards 50th Anniversary, and rightfully so, as his Graduation album gained him four awards. Kanye won Rap Album of the Year, Best Solo Performance for “Stronger”, best Rap Song for “Good Life” with T-Pain, and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group with Common for “Southside”.

Four awards is what he left with (of eight nominations) and he wanted at least one more in particular. The “Grammy’s” hosed Kanye on the Album of the Year by giving it to Herbie Hancock. No disrespect to the winner, but COME ON. The only real threat for Kanye should have been Amy Winehouse… who tore it up too. Kanye was SO relevant this year. He forced 50 Cent into retirement. His singles have ripped up charts. His album artwork by Takashi Murakami was dominant. His fashion was imitated. This should have finally been the time for him and he got ripped off in a bad way. Again no hate on Herbie Hancock and his album… but that wasn’t “the one”.

Kanye also gave an amazing performance with Daft Punk during the awards show. Kanye’s glasses were glowing and Daft Punk emerged in a pod looking like they just stunt-doubled in Tron. (If anyone has any idea what controllers they were using during that performance, please comment back here.) After “Stronger” was done, Kanye sang a somber tribute to his recently deceased mother Donda West. He sang a slowed down version of “Hey Mama” that will likely be bootlegged across the internet from today on. It seemed like a very genuine tribute, more so than carving “MAMA” into his hair like he did for the show. It reminded me of the Puff Daddy / Sting / Faith Evans / 112 tribute to Big Poppa a few years back.

During Kanye’s acceptance speech for Best Rap Album, the orchestra started to play in an attempt to get him off the stage. Kanye kept going over the music and began to say a little something about his mother and at that point Kanye said, “It would be in good taste to stop the music.” They stopped immediately and let him finish. Kanye got hosed again regardless.
