Her real concern presumably is that he will be lost to hell if he doesn’t believe in (the Christian) god. And it is understandable that she would be concerned about that if she really believes that the only way to god is through Christ, etc. But the idea, if it is really characteristic of Christianity (god forbid I strawman Christianity), that the only way to god is through Christ and otherwise you are going to burn, or at least be in some kind of hell, for all eternity has always struck me as a kind of reductio of Christianity.
I just can’t believe that an omnibenevolent, etc., god would pull that kind of shit. It seems to me that if there is a god, and god created us (directly or indirectly), and god is involved with the GOOD, then god would be more interested in how we treat each other than whether we put our foreheads to the ground and quake in fear of eternal damnation.
