Superdelegates, Pelosi, Clinton backers, Bob Casey, and a red herring. In a pear tree.

Why so many Democrats are probably off the subject…

red herring

Superdelegate Bob Casey just signed himself for the Obama team.

Everybody and their mom has a view as to what the Democratic superdelegates should do concerning the presidential nomination. On the one hand, we’ve got Nancy Pelosi, who thinks that

superdelegates should support the party’s pledged delegate leader — a position that would be fatal to Clinton’s presidential bid.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/03/27/obama.moveon/index.html

Then there are Clinton’s backers, who provide a ton of money to the DNC.

Twenty of Clinton’s major donors sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Wednesday that suggested they might rethink their support for the party’s congressional efforts this cycle if Pelosi did not alter her publicly stated view…

Ok, I see that the fat cats are trying to buy the moral conscience of the superdelegates so that Hillary can possibly get a spot. Dark whispers abound: “Vote as you want, not as the people want… you are the chosen one…. YOU choose…. ” Fine. Whatever.

What’s my verdict?
Fact: some superdelegates have made up their minds, some haven’t. See:
http://www.politico.com/superdelegates/

For those who are committed already, they have more than likely already thrown out the principle that they should vote the will of the people. After all, the full vote from “the people” is not in.

The uncommitted superdelegates might be waiting on the will of the people. Then again, they might not. They might be undecided and yet think that the will of the people doesn’t play in.

The key question is, given a realistic picture of the undecided superdelegates’ decision procedures, what is this wrangling over the principles going to amount to?

Jackshit. I’m betting that the vast majority of the undecideds are firmly committed to their decision procedures without being committed (publicly, at least) to a candidate.

Only a few undecideds are probably beating themselves up over what decision procedure to adopt.

In other words, stop trying to convince the superdelegates about the principle of choice they should employ. Convince them about the candidates. Fry the red herring. (Not to be confused with the red trout.)

I am begging you…

If you give a damn about the presidential campaign, read this blog entry at Anderson Cooper 360.  Then take 30 minutes to listen to Rev. Wright’s 9/11 sermon (mp3 at bottom of the page linked above).  Form your own opinion.  Don’t act like you know a man and every person in his congregation from a 20-second snippet you saw on CNBC.  If you listen and still think he’s a kook, so be it.

Michigan’s attempt for another vote fails.

No deal reached on Michigan revote

Sen. Hillary Clinton’s bid for the White House suffered a blow Thursday when Michigan’s state Senate adjourned without passing a bill to schedule a new Democratic primary.

The Senate’s inaction makes it nearly impossible that a revote will occur.

Once again, we can see who’s to blame for the problems in Florida and Michigan. I’ve said it over and over–it’s the elected officials in those states. But Hillary will have you believe that it’s Barack Obama that’s doing it. Absurd, as I’ve already said.

A top Michigan Democrat expressed frustration Wednesday with Obama for not embracing the state’s proposal.

“The Obama people are blocking it in the Legislature,” said the Democratic source, who has not backed either candidate.

The source also said negotiators repeatedly and unsuccessfully have reached out to the campaign for input and cooperation.

The source said that Obama’s campaign has been asked to craft an alternative or to meet with the Clinton camp to work out an acceptable compromise, but that those requests have been met with silence.

However, a state senator who supports Obama said supporters of both sides are contributing to the logjam.

Yes, yes. The finger pointing is all over the place. I’m doing it, too. But the problem started at the state level, and has continued at the state level.

The question should be, Who started Florida and Michigan on these paths?

Clinton calls Obama “un-American” over Michigan and Florida

Where is Clinton left without revotes?

Clinton made a last-minute trip to Michigan today to emphasize her support for a re-vote there, saying it’s “wrong, and frankly un-American” not to have delegates from the two states seated at the convention.

I’ve already written on this topic today, but I’m so pissed off at how ridiculous this woman has gotten. This is clearly a shameless attempt to Swift Boat Obama by painting him as being an America-hater.

Clinton’s reasoning must be something like this:

1. Wright is un-American

2. Anyone who prevents Florida and Michigan from voting is un-American.

3. Barack Obama is preventing Florida and Michigan from voting.

4. Therefore Barack Obama is un-American

5.  Wright and Obama are un-American

The first premise is questionable. The third is definitely false.

Hillary is playing both on the Wright situation and the Florida/Michigan bullshit to make him look unpatriotic.

Total bullshit.

Clinton: “Empower the voters, blah blah, don’t disenfranchise them.”

Hillary is still clawing for the votes of Florida and Michigan. Still. Here’s what she said today.

Clinton challenges Obama on Michigan vote

“I am here for one simple reason,” Clinton said to a small crowd of supporters gathered at an AFSCME hall. “To make sure Michigan’s votes are counted, and your voices are heard in this election.”

The Obama campaign released a memo Wednesday raising “serious” legal and procedural questions about the Michigan proposal.

Clinton said the matter of Michigan’s delegates boils down to each candidate’s commitment to voting rights and questioned if Obama is committed to “empowering the American people.”

“This is a crucial test,” she said. “Does he mean what he says or not?”

Hillary, I’ll say it to you again. No tear in my beer: you disenfranchised yourselves

If you want to blame someone for this, blame the elected officials in those states that tried to cheat the very rules to which they consented. Those officials are the ones that should have empowered the voters. This is not Barack Obama’s fault.

Hillary Clinton has the weakest arguments of any Democrat I’ve ever seen. Bottom line.

Obama’s speech on race, Jeremiah Wright, and the crux of the issue. A challenge to the critics.

Obama gives speech on race

Obama spoke yesterday of diamond-hard facts facing our culture.

But all of the discussion can be boiled down to one key question. The question is, Has Wright’s inflammatory attitude become part of Barack Obama’s psyche? In other words, to what extent does Obama believe the same things about America that Wright does? What Obama’s critics want to show is that Obama has been inculcated, been habituated by Wright to hate America. I’ll return to this shortly

So many critics are saying that he should have left the church. The idea here is supposed to be that, if he disagreed so much with what the pastor had said, real renunciation would involve his leaving.

This view of things assumes an all or nothing attitude, just like Bush does: “Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists.” (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2001/09/20010920-8.html) Either you support your preacher or you don’t.

As if there isn’t a way for anyone to disagree significantly with someone, yet support him in other ways, on other topics. We do this all the time with friends and family. Why not a preacher? There is a false dichotomy in the assumption behind the critics’ charge.

Now, back to the issue of inculcation. Obama’s critics now have the burden of showing that he is disposed to hate this country. In order for them to relieve themselves of this burden, they will have to give us the evidence that he does hate this country. Where is the evidence? I’ll bet a shit-ton of M&Ms that you can’t find it.

It is not enough to say that Obama was most likely inculcated by Wright, only given the amount of time they were in the same room . After all, we know that merely being with someone doesn’t mean that you absorb who they are or their ideas. Anyone who has taken piano lessons can tell you this.

If you’re going to try to pin down a supposed cause of something, you’re going to have to tell me what the effect is. In the case of Barack Obama, you will be hard pressed to isolate an effect that is identical with some bit of hate against the entire country.

So here’s the challenge to all the critics: find me some talk from Obama where he says that he absolutely hates America. If you cannot find more than a statement of dissatisfaction with America (and who hasn’t uttered that kind of statement?), then you will have failed in your goal to tie Obama to Wright’s inflammatory ideas. If you fail to do this, then you should admit that Wright’s comments are irrelevant to this presidential race.

If Wright’s negative teaching has not overtaken Obama, then you should regard him as a dunce who cannot learn from his teacher, or you should look at him as an intelligent critical man who disagreed with the negative messages.

I think we we can regard Obama as a student who has surpassed his teacher in wisdom and serenity. (Thanks to the Ship for putting it this way).

Update 3-19-2008 12:01 PM

Commentary: Courageous Obama poses…

Derrick Ashong writes:

Who can honestly argue that black America is not today contributing mightily to its own social, cultural and economic decline?

Who can honestly argue that white America has not been willfully blind and too often complicit in the injustices that continue to be visited upon people born with darker hue or stranger accent?

I think these are good questions. But they don’t seem to be sinking in. Why? I suspect most people in the middle between the Republicans and Democrats are still concerned with our foreign policy and those who hate America. The right-wing nut jobs are not going after Wright because he’s black–they’re going to try to peg him to the current enemy. And Obama’s opponents are trying to peg him to Wright.

Once again, they will need hard evidence that Obama has absorbed the anti-American sentiment that Wright (supposedly) has. But they will not be able to do this.

My point is that America has largely swept the problem of race under the rug. That’s because we’ve been battling other problems for now–namely Bush’s idiocy and asshole terrorists, such as Bin Laden.

I think most people are aware that racial problems exist. But I also think that people are also trying to figure out how to pay for groceries, to remember to take their kids to soccer practice, to stay on top of their daily lives.

It’s true–but unfortunate–we’ve neglected our racial problems. The dialogue now reopens.

The damning of America

By now, hardcore conservatives have probably whipped themselves into a frenzy over Jeremiah Wright’s comments:

“No, no, no, not God bless America — God damn America!”

Minister leaves Obama campaign

Here’s a good chunk of idiotic conservative commentary:

While a number of [liberals], including Barack Obama, will distance themselves from any or all of Rev. Wright’s specific statements, liberals will have a hard time denying that they share one thing in common with him… they resent or even hate what America stands for. They see our nation as an evil power in the world and one in which the haves oppress the have-nots at home.

Who Rev. Jeremiah Wright Really Speaks For

Wright’s kind of language, of course, is absurd, and it should be completely rejected. But it should be kept in mind that the conservatives have had their doomsayers:

I’ll say it again: conservatives, like Cindy McCain, like to say that they LOVE the USA. They prefer to act as if they have a monopoly on pride of country. That is such a crock of shit. They surely don’t love the whole country. They can’t; in fact, these rabid conservatives (not all conservatives are) hate almost half the country that consists of liberals. So don’t give me this shit that Wright hates the country and that he speaks for liberals. Falwell showed the hate he had for what he perceived as the current state of the nation.

So many of us love to use God as the source of ultimate vengeance. It’s a incontrovertible fact. This is old ground, however, and I won’t re-cover it too much. But the source of this kind of need for revenge (which even ol’ Spanky feels sometimes) is based, in large part, on what we learned from the temper tantrums of the God from the Old Testament.

Yeah, Wright fucked up. But don’t make me trot out the list of all the criminal fucks that the religious right used to champion.

Barack Obama is Overqualified and Hillary Clinton is Unequipped

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton Charts

With all the crazy talk racism by Geraldine Ferraro of Barack Obama’s success coming from him being black and then defending her claim rather than taking it back, we took it upon ourselves to investigate by clicking on one link the element of gender to fire back at Hillary Clinton and her crew.

It did not take long to prove that Hillary Clinton is not the “right man for the job”, or even a man at all. There has been a commonality of ALL, not some, but all presidents before. That commonality is they have all had a penis. It has also been shown that testicles produce leadership. Eyewitnesses have gone on record saying that the Illinois Senator is more than qualified. This of course by simple logic eliminates Hillary Clinton (Clintones Ringtones or not)from even really being seriously considered.

So since Ferraro refuses to back off her zany statement, we simply wanted to Trump her and back it up with fact. We have a video from FunnyOrDie.com that corroborates builds our entire basis for our claim that Hillary Clinton is not equipped for the job and Barack Obama is the Total Package. It has to be factual because it was on the internet and included charts which in turn builds a case that Johnny Cochran could not even break down, glove or not. The photoshop job should also serve as exhibit B. if you still need more proof beyond the self-explanatory video.

Geraldine Ferraro had it half way right; Barack Obama IS lucky, not for just being black like she suggests, but lucky instead for being a black MAN.

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www2.funnyordie.com/public/flash/fodplayer.swf?1203120643" height="388" width="464" allowfullscreen="true" quality="high" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" fvars="key = 1a4546c7bb" /]

*because we do not hate Hillary Clinton, do not find her unqualified because of her gender, and do not support any REAL thoughts that endorse either of those ideas, we felt it was important to point out we are 100% kidding with this post

Ferraro: “You heard me, bro.”

Ferraro: My comment wasn’t racist, it was a fact

Geraldine Ferraro stirred controversy with her recent remarks that Obama’s campaign was successful because he was black.

“It wasn’t a racist comment, it was a statement of fact,” she said on CBS’ Early Show, adding that she would leave Hillary Clinton’s national finance committee if she were asked, but would not stop raising money for the New York senator’s presidential bid. She also blamed Obama’s chief strategist, David Axelrod, for misinterpreting her remarks.

Notice Gerrie goes on to say this:

Ferraro also told ABC’s Good Morning America that “every time” someone makes a negative comment about Obama, they are accused of racism.

Late Tuesday, she told interviewer that she felt she was being attacked because she was white.

Ok, that’s bullshit. You can’t have it both ways, sister. You can’t say that B.O. is winning because he is black, and then defend yourself by saying that your critics are attacking you because you’re white.

“Allow me to retort.” Your attempt to play the inverted race card will come back to bite you in the ass. Here’s how. I could say that you’re saying all this shit because you’re white. How about that? That’s consistent with your strategy.

Look, drop all this nonsense, Gerrie. The guy has a message, and maybe you’re just jealous that he’s winning. Notice that I just committed an ad hominem, but you’ve already given me license to do that–because that is your game.

Piss off.

NEXT!
