Imagine that. Kanye acts like a jackass again.

Bonnaroo crowd tells Kanye West he sucks

West had been scheduled to take the main stage at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival at 2:45 a.m. Sunday morning. While the sleepy thousands in the audience waited, a message on the jumbotrons told them West’s show would be delayed until 3:15 a.m., and when that didn’t happen, that he would start at 3:30. West didn’t hit the stage until 4:25 a.m “

Kanye’s head is so big that he jumped up in the air and got stuck.

Whether he’s telling lies at Lollapalooza or being late at Bonnaroo, Kanye West has demonstrated that he thinks that he is a god.

Newsflash, Kanye. The crowd isn’t buying it anymore. Frankly, I think this asshole should be sent into obscurity, and his albums should never be bought again.

Kanye doesn’t have one-tenth of the musical ability of Adam Jones.

Act like a professional. The only way to cure these “fevered egos” (thank you, Bill Hicks), is to kick them to the curb. But, of course, what army I am leading? None….

2008 Oscar Predictions Collected

Grown Pumpkin at the Oscars

The red carpet is already in full swing as tonight February 24, 2008 in less than one hour, ABC will be broadcasting the Jon Stewart hosted 80th annual Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars.  This year the juggernaut movies are Atonement, Michael Clayton (I liked this one), No Country For Old Men, and There Will Be Blood, each of which got seven or eight nominations.  Juno, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, and Ratatouille each got four or five.

Of the movies nominated that I liked – American Gangster, 3:10 to Yuma, Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Transformers, Eastern Promises, Gone Baby Gone, The Bourne Ultimatum, and The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford – none gathered more than three nominations.  Additionally the AWFUL Eddie Murphy stinker Norbit got more nominations (1) than Sean Penn’s Into the Wild, Hairspray, The Simpsons Movie, Tim Burton, Helena Bonham Carter, Denzel Washington, or Christian Bale.

There are always a good number of snubs and there is never a shortage of Oscar predictions.  We have prepared a collection of some of those predictions in one spot.  This way we can make a scorecard of all the wrong picks the “experts” made prior to tonight.  Originally we were going to prepare our own, but we do not care enough about this particular collection of nominations as it is configured to warrant writing a “Soupy Trumpet Picks” article.  After Kanye West got hosed at the Grammys, we have been having a hard time with award shows in general.

Predictions (sampling):

* contrary to the photoshopped image above, Grown Pumpkin will NOT be attending the Oscars… let alone watching them

Soupy Trumpet Blasts from the Web 2-23-08

Here’s another Soupy Trumpet daily-dose of internet finds to enjoy:

Michael Jackson’s Thriller Album Turns 25 and Prisoners Dance

Michael Jackson Thriller 25 Photoshop

Yesterday Michael Jackson‘s Thriller, “The World’s Biggest Selling Album Of All Time”, was re-released celebrating the 25th anniversary of the landmark album.  Two versions of the album are available for purchase; standard and deluxe.  Both versions contain the nine original, Quincy Jones produced tracks as well as seven bonus tracks for the 25th Anniversary Edition.  Six of these songs have been released for the first time on this album.

New for this version are songs done by contemporary artists.  Soupy Trumpet favorite will.i.am helped to make 2008 updated versions of “The Girl is Mine” (originally with Paul McCartney) and P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing).  Black Eyed Peas bandmate Fergie collaborated on “Beat It 2008″.  Grammy Awards star Kanye West did a remix of “Billie Jean” for the album and Akon’s version of “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ has been the primary source of buzz for this release.  There is an unreleased track excerpt from the Vincent Price voice-over sessions added and available only at Best Buy there is a “Thriller (def Remix)” exclusive hidden track.  “For All Time” is the only bonus track from the original Thriller sessions that had not been released before.  Also included is a bonus DVD that comes with videos for “Billie Jean”, “Beat It”, “Thriller”, and the live performance of “Billie Jean” at the “Motown 25:Yesterday, Today, and Forever” special.

Thriller is credited for selling 27 million albums in the United States, making it #2 of all time behind the Eagles’ Greatest hits.  Around the world though, Thriller has sold 104 million albums which makes it the biggest selling album in the world to date.

A few months ago (if not longer) another famous Viral Video popped up on YouTube and the internet of 1500 Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) in Cebu, Philippines rehearsing their Thriller dance routine.  There are very few things more surreal than a large group of prisoners choreographing Thriller while incarcerated (link to video below).

Kanye West Does His Thing at Grammy Awards and Gets Hosed Again

Kanye West at the Grammy Awards

Kanye West has been known to take exception to award ceremonies, most notoriously the VMA Awards vowing to never go back on MTV after being shut out on the big prize multiple times. Sunday night Kanye had a great streak of success at the 2008 Grammy Awards 50th Anniversary, and rightfully so, as his Graduation album gained him four awards. Kanye won Rap Album of the Year, Best Solo Performance for “Stronger”, best Rap Song for “Good Life” with T-Pain, and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group with Common for “Southside”.

Four awards is what he left with (of eight nominations) and he wanted at least one more in particular. The “Grammy’s” hosed Kanye on the Album of the Year by giving it to Herbie Hancock. No disrespect to the winner, but COME ON. The only real threat for Kanye should have been Amy Winehouse… who tore it up too. Kanye was SO relevant this year. He forced 50 Cent into retirement. His singles have ripped up charts. His album artwork by Takashi Murakami was dominant. His fashion was imitated. This should have finally been the time for him and he got ripped off in a bad way. Again no hate on Herbie Hancock and his album… but that wasn’t “the one”.

Kanye also gave an amazing performance with Daft Punk during the awards show. Kanye’s glasses were glowing and Daft Punk emerged in a pod looking like they just stunt-doubled in Tron. (If anyone has any idea what controllers they were using during that performance, please comment back here.) After “Stronger” was done, Kanye sang a somber tribute to his recently deceased mother Donda West. He sang a slowed down version of “Hey Mama” that will likely be bootlegged across the internet from today on. It seemed like a very genuine tribute, more so than carving “MAMA” into his hair like he did for the show. It reminded me of the Puff Daddy / Sting / Faith Evans / 112 tribute to Big Poppa a few years back.

During Kanye’s acceptance speech for Best Rap Album, the orchestra started to play in an attempt to get him off the stage. Kanye kept going over the music and began to say a little something about his mother and at that point Kanye said, “It would be in good taste to stop the music.” They stopped immediately and let him finish. Kanye got hosed again regardless.

Timbaland Has Tantrum at His Own People Magazine Pre-Grammy Party

Timbaland Pouts at His Party

People Magazine threw a pre-Grammy‘s party for music producer Timbaland at the Avalon Club Saturday night.  The party was celebrating a combination of it being time for the Grammy’s, an early birthday party for Timbaland, and to announce the new deal Timbaland has in place with wireless provider Verizon to create a mobile album and additional content.

The party was packed with celebrity guests and performers including Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Ludacris, Miley Cyrus aka “Hannah Montana”, will.i.am, Fergie, Jordin Sparks, and Mr. AC Slater himself – Mario Lopez.  Paramore, Missy Elliott, and Chris Cornell were performers on the bill that lasted early into the morning hours.

During the show Timbaland was seen on the side of the stage essentially pouting and later grabbed the microphone and tore into People Magazine in a tirade that included several instances of foul language.  Before popping off at the mouth, Timbaland warned the crowd that he was about to outdo Kanye West in this public outburst.  The reason he was so mad was apparently some of his friends were denied access to the event and were waiting outside.  After he was done crying the party he just ruined was basically over.

None of this should be surprising to anyone.
